Summer is the best time for enjoying the sun, but it can also be a challenge for your skin. But, there are a lot of problems that come with the summer season. The scorching weather and intense heat cause dehydration and irritation in the body.

So, it is important to take care of our skin during this season. Here are some tips for taking care of your skin:

Sunscreen is Essential

The most important thing is to wear sunscreen every day. If you are going to be out in the sun for more than 15 minutes, use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher on all exposed areas of your body. 

If you have sensitive skin, look for products that are fragrance-free and hypoallergenic. 

If you’re planning on being outside for an extended period of time, wear hats and sunglasses to protect your face from the sun’s rays as well as cover up any exposed areas that aren’t protected by sunscreens like your hands and neck.

Avoid Acne-Causing Foods

Some foods can aggravate acne or cause breakouts such as fried foods, dairy products, chocolate, nuts, and fatty foods like French fries or chips (potatoes are vegetables). 

If you’re prone to acne breakouts in the summer months, try avoiding these foods at least once a week.

Use Sunscreen Lotion

Sunscreen lotion is one of the most important things you need when you step out during summer. Sunscreen protects your skin from harmful ultraviolet rays while also keeping it hydrated and moisturized. 

Apply sunscreen lotion at least 15 minutes before stepping out into the sun to allow it to sink into your skin well. 

Also, apply sunscreen lotion every two hours as required during the summer months to protect yourself from harmful UV rays that can lead to premature aging.

Keep Hydrated

The main cause of dry skin is dehydration. Dehydration makes your body lose water and electrolytes, which can make your skin look dull and dry. Hence, drink plenty of water throughout the day to keep your body hydrated.

You can also consume coconut water that contains electrolytes and antioxidants that help to keep your skin healthy.

Apply a Light Moisturizer 

Apply a light moisturizer on your face every morning and evening. This will help hydrate your skin and get rid of any dry patches that may have developed due to excessive heat or sweat from the environment.

Don’t Skip the Toner 

If you have oily or combination skin, you mustn’t skip toner as this helps remove excess oil from the skin and makes it look fresh again.

Go Lighter on the Makeup

You don’t have to wear heavy makeup every day just because it is summer. Opt for something lighter like tinted moisturizers or BB creams instead so that they won’t clog pores and make acne worse.

Use Makeup with SPF

Sun protection is important, but not all makeup contains it. For example, the foundation doesn’t have SPF (though some do).

That way, your skin will get sun protection without having to layer on multiple products.

Exfoliate Once or Twice a Week

Exfoliation removes dead skin cells and lets new ones grow in their place.

Exfoliating once or twice a week helps keep your complexion looking fresh and healthy throughout the season, especially since summer weather can make the air so dry that it causes flaky skin on its own.

Wear Sun-Protective Clothing and Accessories

When you’re spending time outdoors, it’s important to protect your skin with clothing and accessories that shield you from the sun’s harmful rays. 

Choose clothes made with tightly woven fabrics like linen or cotton that allow air to flow through them easily. 

Long pants, long-sleeved shirts, hats, and sunglasses will help protect your face, head, and eyes from the sun’s rays.

Use Face Masks

Apply a good moisturizing face mask daily before going out in the sun. This will help keep your face hydrated and prevent dryness which can lead to wrinkles and fine lines. You can also use sunblock for extra protection against UV rays. 

Apply it generously on exposed areas like hands, knees, shoulders, neck, etc., before stepping out in the sun so that it soaks into your skin well enough to do its job properly.

Use Blotting Papers

Blotting papers can be used to remove excess oil from the face. Blotting papers do not cause any harm to the skin and they help in keeping the face matte for longer hours.
